Mercato Serie A: Every Done Deal So Far

A slow start for most Italian clubs in the transfer window but it’s early doors yet. Here is every confirmed transfer as of July 2nd and some grades to accompany them

Atalanta: A+

The more things change the more they stay the same. Gaspo might be out but Atalanta continue to be the smartest in terms of transfers. I would have given them an A just for getting 12 mil from Cagliari for the worst player in Serie A last season. I know the deal was agreed earlier but I’m sticking with what Transfermarkt tells me. Ruggeri was an important player last season but they got decent money for him and I trust in the back room staff to replace his minutes without much drop off. Koss at just 23 can still improve a lot and has already proven he can hang in this Atalanta squad. Samardžić had just the one assist in 31 league appearances, however he created 35 chances. Expect the 23 year olds stats to double next season as Atalanta improve around him. 10 mil is a decent deal for Bresciani who played 38 times on loan at Atalanta last year a decent squad option anywhere in midfield.

Bologna: C-

The Coppa Italia champions need to get a bit of a move on. You should expect Bologna to invest decently, a cup win and a second season in Europe should leave them pretty flush with cash. Keeping Casale is a good start but they will need to replace Pobega and Calabria who were fairly important to their late push. A couple of decent signings and Bologna could be dark horses to win the Europa league hopefully they start wheelin and dealin soon. Gillier: decent punt on a very raw goalkeeper. Needs more games under his gloves but has some decent numbers in terms of high claims and sweeping.

Cagliari: D-

The former Serie A champs are in trouble. First the positives: Caprile is brilliant genuinely a top keeper and only 23, he might be the only good player on this team however. Now the negatives: between Augello, Viola, and Palomino they lose 89 games played last season, new coach who has no experience, and they are stuck paying 12 million euro for fucking Piccoli. As a Cagliari fan I am crashing the fuck out. We might score less than 20 goals this season.

Como: B

Baturina will be the only new face around Como here and just looking at the numbers he should be a quality addition. He does kind of clash with Nico Paz so I’m not sure he will play a lot but will definitely be a great backup option at the very least. Perhaps they should be strengthening in other positions like striker and goalkeeper but with their money and ambition that should come shortly.

Cremonese: D

No new faces yet but keeping 2 players from last season for under 5 million is decent business no matter when it was done. I do worry slightly for the lads over in Cremona sure they were only 4 points off safety in 22/23 but haven’t improved much since then. Two 4th place finishes in Serie B is nice and consistent but this Serie A season will see some weak teams down the bottom half just a little investment and they have a shot at staying up.

Fiorentina: B

Fiorentina gonna Fiorentina. Make smart safe moves and finish 7th. Love Nicolo Beans as Amrabat replacement, Gosens for 7 mil is nice, maybe could have got more for Kayode but they could have got less for Amrabat so overall decent dealings. I would love a bit more ambition, they could do with strengthening the back line, and I’m not convinced by Fazzini but I can’t wait to be proven wrong. Back in the conference league where they lost twice in the final of a competition that’s been around 4 years. It feels like I viola are 2 good players away from either champions league qualification or winning a trophy for the first time in 25 years.

Genoa: F

Between Badelj, Balotelli, and Messias they are losing 49 appearances and replacing that with a 32 year old Stanciu. Look if you want to sell off everything do it now before you’re relegated and the players value drops by half. Viera isn’t a good enough manager to keep them up on his own merit and with the squad they have now there is real danger of that. Get a bloody move on lads you’re a De Winter injury away from serious shit. That €500 for Valietti is going to buy a fuck tonne of pesto.

Hellas Verona: F

It’ll be a tight season down the ass end of Serie A. Verona survived by 6 points last season which is not a lot. Don’t worry tho as they have improved no where and lost their best player to Brighton. Yikes fratello.

Inter: B

Out with the old in with the young. Zalewski I like a lot especially at that price and Luis Henrique had 9 goals and 9 assists for Marseille last season. Two new wing backs both 23 for a combined 30 mil? I’d take that any day of the week. If Henrique can produce half of what he did last season that’s an unreal signing. Sučić has impressed me quite a bit in the Club World Cup at only 21 he looks like he can slot right into that Inter midfield. Could probably do with a striker or two before the window shuts but if Esposito steps up they really didn’t lose anyone of significance.

Juventus: D+

Apart from having to pay 17 mil for Lloyd Kelly which is a complete disaster this is okay. Di Gregorio and Kalulu are great signings. I’d like to see a bit more from Nico but he seems okay. They are however linked with Kolo Muani on a permanent deal, Johnathan David, (who I think is actually signed now), Sancho, and Osimhen. Now I’m no football expert but I don’t see any of them being capable of playing fucking centre back. It looks as if you are stuck with Vlahovic maybe instead of looking at 3 strikers and a useless cunt Chelsea paid 5 mil to NOT sign you should be looking at some defenders. Especially someone who can play on the left of a back 3.

Lazio: A-

Tavares was one of the best players in the league last season and they are keeping him for only 5 mil? What a steal. Gigot and Dele Bashiru were decent squad players last season, turning the two permanent for less than 4 mil total isn’t bad. Finally turning the two Juve lads permanent is solid dealing too. Rovella could probably go for double that price. 15 mil for Tchaouna is nice for Lazio sure he played 37 matches last season but really didn’t produce much in terms of numbers.

Lecce: C

Cmon do something. They got £30 mil for Dorgu and Leeds are close to signing Krstovic for around €35 mil. They could really do with investing that cash, as I’ve said already it will be tight down the bottom this season.

Milan: B

Ricci seems to be on his way from Torino for about €25 mil. Not a bad way to replace Reijnders but they will need a bit more than that. Allegri’s boys are lacking a bit of depth across the board. If Theo finally goes they will need to invest in almost every position but especially at fullback. Too early to tell but they have done well gathering funds now spend that shit.

Napoli: C+

De Bruyne is nice and all but that’s really the best way to go for Napoli? You just lost Kvara and kinda Osimhen and it almost cost them the league if not for some McTominay heroics. They desperately need some attackers. Not a lad who has lost his legs but can pass it pretty good. Who is going to receive these passes bro? I think ideally they should make up with Osimhen like that makes the most sense for everyone. But I guess that’s impossible? The lads they are targeting; Nunez, Noa Lang, Yarmuliuk? These are lame ass we couldn’t qualify for champions league level signings. You are Serie A champions why can’t you get Gyokeres? Or Rashford, Garnacho, Eze, you should be competing with Bayern for all these wingers they are linked to. The Serie A champions shouldn’t be a couple season stop on a players way to Turkey.

Parma: C

I like the idea of an Ordóñez signing. If I was running a squad we would be blowing all our money on finding a starting level defensive midfielder I think it’s the most important position at the moment and the hardest to find. Parma are among that gaggle of teams that should be prepping for a real battle down the ass end of Serie A, so they may need more than this one signing especially with this new young unproven manager.

Pisa: C

Another too early to tell. I don’t think either signing will feature too much this season both are young Serie B standard signings for the future. Will need to do a bit more to stay up.

Roma: C

Alright lads, get the lead out. It’s not like they’re lacking funds. What’s going on? Gaspo is gonna need a bit more than he currently has in Rome if they want to do well domestically and in the Europa League. It’ll be interesting to see how much they back Gasperini this window I’m not sure a front three of Dovbyk, Dybala, Shomurodov is getting a lot done. I like the midfield of Parades, Kone, Cristante, and Svilar in nets is decent the rest however needs some work.

Sassuolo: B-

Muharemovic played quite well for Sass last season. A few more signings like him and their usual black magic against the top clubs should keep them up this season. They are clearly the best of the promoted sides and should be able to battle it out with the likes of Cagliari, Lecce, and Verona for safety.

Torino: C+

Add the 25 mil for Ricci and not a bad start to the transfer window. Torino are in a weird spot. They are no where near relegation and also no where near the top 7/8. They should be using whatever available funds to take some swings at young talent and give them a chance. Take this time of relative safety and try to build a strong core of talented young players.

Udinese: B

Atta did play 30 games last season for the Udine but 8 is a bit of a stretch for a player who should be your 5th/6th choice centre mid. On the other hand Bertola is a sick signing. One of the best centre backs in Serie B last season, 22 years old, 6ft 4, and FREE. Superb signing. They are in a similar position to Torino where they would do well in taking chances on young talents while their squad battles it out for 9th or 10th.

Thats all the confirmed deals for now I’ll update this in a couple weeks but until then please read some of my other shit and forza Cagliari.

Streets Might Forget XI - The Underrated Team of the Season

Streets Might Forget XI - The Underrated Team of the Season The Jeffrey Schluup All Stars, The Adnan Januzaj xi, The Wes Hoolahan TOTS. A collection of players who are more than just underrated, players who could’ve, would’ve, should’ve been starting for perennial Champions League contenders. If Wes Hoolahan instead of being born in Dublin was born 940 miles south south west in Catalonia he is one of the all time greats. Or if Januzaj had joined a functional football club instead of a post-Fergie United, where could he be now? Or if Jeffrey Schluup was a bit less stubborn and was given a chance on a big team he could have been Fede Valverde lite. What is the criteria? I shall be using my arbitrary 3 U’s system. 1. Underratedness - a player who gets either not enough recognition, or too much hate. 2. Uefaness - can I convince myself they would fit into a top European team. 3. Untapped Potential - a slight tweak and this player could be elite, whether that be in footballing, abilit...

Promoted Profiles: Can Pisa Hold On To Serie A Status?

A series looking at the promoted sides from around Europe’s top 5 leagues. Up next: Pisa The 34 year wait is over. Pisa are finally back in Serie A. The former runners up to the Italian title (1920/21) (if you can count that with Pisa being re-founded twice since then) will hope to finally establish themselves as a Serie A side having been swiftly relegated any time they came up in the 80’s. They will hope to do this without the man who brought them up. Pippo Inzaghi will stay in Serie B after Palermo agreed a deal that suits everyone. Pisa get some cash from Inzaghi’s release clause, Palermo get a promotion specialist, and Inzaghi gets a big pay bump. Departures Apart from Inzaghi it doesn’t look like there will be much activity on the departures front.  Christian Sussi, who made just the one appearance for the Nerazzurri last season, is leaving on a free. Arrivals Two Serie B youngsters make their way to Pisa this summer, both arriving from struggling Frosinone.  Isak Vural ...

Promoted Profiles: Can Sassuolo Reclaim Some Glory

A series looking at the promoted sides from around Europe’s top 5 leagues. Up first: US Sassuolo The promoted side you’ll be most familiar with. The giant killers in years past suffered somewhat of a shock relegation in 23/24 and as expected have bounced back the first time of asking.  The more things change the more they stay the same  23/24 it seemed like everything went wrong for the Neroverdi. After 2 decent seasons the team fell apart around Dionisi. Ballardini joined in February but failed to keep Sassuolo up. Fabio Grosso took over in July 24 and did well with a stacked Serie B squad, he got them where they needed to go and now has the opportunity to prove himself.  Even with the new coach Sass look set up to play with the same identity they went down with. Wide open attacking football. They should continue to line up with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, even if they still are yet to really replace Locatelli who bosses their midfield for 3 seasons. Boloca might be good enough ...
